Handloom textile industryThe centre has been implementing following schemes in the country to promote handloom textile industry, including ‘Chanderi’ –

(i)    National Handloom Development Programme – two components:

  •  Revival, Reform and Restructuring (RRR) Package for handloom sector
  •  Comprehensive Handloom Development Scheme
  •  Integrated Handloom Cluster Development Scheme (IHCDS)

(ii)    Handloom Weavers Comprehensive Welfare Scheme – two components:

  • Health Insurance Scheme for access to health care facilities
  • Mahatma Gandhi Bunkar Bima Yojana for life insurance

(iii)    Yarn Supply Scheme

Under Integrated Handloom Cluster Development Scheme (IHCDS), in Chanderi, handloom cluster for its integrated & holistic development was sanctioned. The cluster covered about 5000 handlooms and was developed with Central share of Rs. 2.00 crore.

Chanderi handloom cluster was implemented by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), Ahmedabad. In the cluster various interventions like upgradation of existing dye house, setting up common facility centre, design & project development, engagement of designer, exhibitions & buyer-seller meets, formation of web portal, skill development & technology up-gradation etc. were implemented.

National Handloom Development programme (NHDP) was introduced in 2013-14, having various components, including consolidation of clusters.   During 2013-14, EDI, Ahmedabad has been sanctioned consolidation of the Chanderi handloom cluster under NHDP, textile minister, Mr. Santosh Kumar Gangwar said in a written reply to Lok Sabha yesterday.
