Garment UnitAll the eight North-Eastern states will have one garment manufacturing unit in each of their capitals.

Entrepreneurs hailing from those states and with a background in textiles will get an opportunity to run such apparel units under a new model initiated by the centre.

Under the new policy, the centre will finance the cost of 300 stitching machines for each of those units, while state governments will provide 1.5 acres of land, nearby or in their respective capital cities.

To begin with, those units in addition to producing school dresses will also manufacture uniforms for the paramilitary forces deployed in the states, local police force, state government officials, etc.

The buildings, machineries, etc. will be owned jointly by the concerned state governments and the central government.

In addition, the entrepreneurs will receive assistance from the centre in selection of officials for administration, operations, IT and finance.

The textiles ministry will nominate one of its senior officials who will be selecting the entrepreneur as well as be associated with the management of the unit.

Once the project is completed, it will be employing around 11,200 to 12,000 people, the official sources said.
