Panipat ‘super organised’ textile cluster, says minister

Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh has said Panipat is a “super organised” textile sector, and at present, the textile sector in the country is worth $176 billion and the aim of the government is to develop this sector to $350 billion.

The minister also assured that problems of the industries would be resolved after holding a meeting with Union Minister and former CM Manohar Lal Khattar and the state government.

The minister was addressing industrialists at a joint meeting of the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC) and Panipat Exporters’ Association here today. He also visited the industrial area, where industrialists submitted a memorandum of their demands.

The minister said today was the era of new designs globally and once a design came to market, it disappeared quickly.

“Today is the era of fast fashion and it is said there is very good business in Panipat and attention will have to be paid towards increasing it further. The Panipat industries alone are giving employment to 8-10 lakh people, while 4.6 crore people are employed in this sector across the country.
