Cotton textileIn a bid to formulate a policy for giving remunerative price to cotton farmers, the textiles ministry will hold a meeting next month with the ministries of commerce, labour and agriculture.

This was decided after labour minister Bandaru Dattatreya along with a 26-member delegation met textiles minister, Santosh Kumar Gangwar in New Delhi to highlight the situation of cotton farmers, especially in Telangana. The delegation comprising 26 members from BJP, particularly from Warangal district, apprised Gangwar of the situation of cotton farmers in Telangana.

After the meeting, Dattatreya told reporters that Gangwar agreed to convene a meeting of the four ministries to decide on how to ensure remunerative price for cotton farmers.

The labour minister said that the policy which will be formulated will also find ways to ensure maximum purchase of cotton from farmers. The regions of Warangal, Adilabad, Khammam and Karimnagar produce the highest amount of cotton in Telangana.

Dattatreya said textile minister has agreed to setting up a textile park in Telangana, that is proposed to be in Warangal district and a separate cotton research centre and a Cotton Corporation of India office (CCI) in the state.
