Merino wool in Sportswear at IFF 2018 by the Woolmark Company

The Woolmark Company, the global authority on Merino wool, hosted an exclusive ‘Wool in Sports’ masterclass on March 13th at the India Fashion Forum 2018. The session was tailormade to educate design students and textile experts from the industry on the importance of Merino wool in the sports and retail segment.

Hosted by Mr. Rajesh Bahl, an expert in wool education from Australia and Mr. Jaspreet Chandok, Vice President and Head (Fashion), IMG Reliance, the masterclass offered an in-depth analysis into the unique properties of wool and latest innovations in wool sportswear. The insightful session reinforced Merino wool’s unshaken position in the luxury segment and its adoption as a natural, smart textile across athleisure and the sports category.

Perfectly capturing the versatility of Merino wool, key innovations such as a variety of comfortable wool shoes and a trendy Neualana Protect jacket, were showcased. The jacket delivers a unique, high-performance fabric resistant to wind and rain, ideal for outer-wear apparel due to its heat regulation property. The woolen shoes exemplified comfort and captured the essence of Merino wool’s key properties, i.e., breathability and odour resistance, crucial for exercising.

While Merino wool performs like no other fibre in sporting environments, its natural qualities lend themselves perfectly to the design of comfortable and stylish leisurewear. It is successfully penetrating the outdoor and sports apparel market that continues to grow in innovation and quantum.
