Bangladesh To Introduce Pension For Apparel Workers

The Bangladesh government is planning to introduce pension facilities for apparel workers of all export oriented units to ensure their retired life is smooth and hassle free.

“Labour and employment ministry is planning to introduce pension facilities for all apparel workers and all workers will come under the facilities gradually,” Mujibul Haque Chunnu, state minister for labour and employment said.

He also said that the government has taken several steps in the direction which also includes creating a special welfare fund for the garment workers, to which, around Taka 89 lakh has already been deposited.

The funds available in the government’s labour welfare fund now totals to Taka 171 crore, of which around Taka two crore has already been given to various workers as assistance, Chunnu added.
