According to statistics of the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau, apparel exports were highest in November, since the beginning of the current fiscal in July. Receipts from overseas shipments of garments between July and November 2023 declined 1.82 percent year on year, to $22.3 billion. In the first five months of fiscal ending November 30, exports of Bangladeshi home textiles plummeted 42.27 percent from a year ago period to $299.4 million. The fall in clothing exports in November were primarily attributable to protests by garment workers who wanted higher minimum wages. According to experts, these protests came at a time, when garment exporters are busy with fulfilling orders for the festival season in western markets.
