At a Fire Safety and Security Expo, Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), cited the Bangladesh apparel sector as a role model for others to follow.

Speaking at the 9th International Fire Safety and Security Expo, Hassan said the garment industry is a shining example of workplace safety in the world, due to which it has gained global recognition.

He further added that the clothing manufacturing sector has also emerged as a leader in environmental sustainability.

Hassan pointed out the fact that Bangladesh has 207 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) garment factories; the highest number of LEED-certified apparel factories in any country in the world.

The BGMEA President underlined the need to invest in safety equipment production within the country, to make safety equipment available at competitive prices.

He also stressed the significance of extending safety measures to workers in other industrial sectors.
