Japanese fast fashion retailing company, Uniqlo has planned its first debut store to open in India by next year in Delhi. It will mark the beginning of the brand entry in South Asian market and a significant step in its global expansion strategy. After Sweden and Netherlands, the brand will have its first store to enter into India.

The company feels privileged to be a part of the country’s growing retail market, Tadashi Yanai, Chairman, President, and CEO of Fast Retailing Co. said.

However, Fast Retailing has made it clear that before trying its feet in other markets in India, the retailer will initially focus on its expansion in Delhi region only. The retailer will kick off recruitment for its upcoming store following the establishment of a wholly-owned subsidiary in Delhi this month.

It is pertinent to mention here that Uniqlo applied for the single brand licence with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion to commence its retail business operations in the Indian market last year.

Uniqlo, which sees India as a potential market for its growth, will have to face competition from other global fashion labels such as Zara (Spain), H&M (Sweden) and Gap (USA) popular among millennials since their India entry. The company is also planning to start its Uniqlo Manager Candidate programme in India soon.
