Textile Ministry Extends Samarth Reskilling Programme Till March 2025

The Indian Textile Ministry has extended the ‘Samarth’ scheme for capacity building in the textiles and apparel sector by another year and so the scheme will now be operational till March 31, 2025.

“The Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance has approved the extension of the scheme,” a statement from the Textiles Ministry informed.

The objective of the Samarth scheme is to incentivize and complement the efforts of the textile and garment industry in creating jobs in the organised textile and related sectors. However, it excludes spinning and weaving.

The scheme is a broad skilling policy framework formulated under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and is a demand-driven and placement-oriented skilling scheme.

Apart from entry-level skilling, provision for upskilling and re-skilling programme has also been undertaken under the scheme to improve the productivity of existing workers.

In addition, the scheme also caters to upskilling and re-skilling requirements of other related sectors like handlooms, handicrafts, silk, and jute.
