Welspun Initiates Digitization Drive for Its Workers

India’s largest textile and steel conglomerate, ‘Welspun Group’ has initiated the country’s biggest ever digitization drive involving 15,000 of its workers at Anjar plant. The workers of the company were today initiated into the cashless economy using the RBI’s UPI payment application. This is the largest mass initiation of general public to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s cashless transaction drive in the country.

In a mass event presided by textile commissioner, Dr. Kavita Gupta, 500 workers downloaded and installed the UPI application and will further be trained on using the application for online transactions in their day-to-day life. Welspun will further initiate the rest of 14,500 workers to the digital application in the coming weeks.

The textile commissioner in her speech briefed the importance and benefits of cashless, digital transactions.

“Welspun Group’s digitization drive comes in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two prestigious projects – Economy Digitization and Vibrant Gujarat. The drive will bring around 15,000 Welspun workers into the fold of the cashless economy, empowering an equal number of families and opening up a future of digital lifestyle,” Rajesh Mandawewala, MD of Welspun Group, said.

The Welspun Group has been generating direct and indirect employment for over one lakh people in Gujarat. Gujarat-made towels of Welspun have found markets across the world and has put Anjar on the global map. The Group’s Gujarat-made line pipes have made it to the most challenging infrastructure projects across the world and brought pride and fame to the state.
