PHWP Plans Investing Over Rs.30cr To Expand Operations

Palladam Hi-Tech Weaving Park ( PHWP ) is the first integrated textile park established for the first time in India which functions on the model of a public-private partnership managed by user entrepreneurs which is in operation since 2008, with currently focusing on weaving it now plans investing over Rs. 30 crore to expand operations.

It is planning to add garment and made-up manufacturing facilities at a cost of Rs. 26.15 crore, including Rs.10 crore grant from the government under the scheme for additional grant for apparel manufacturing. The textile ministry has also sanctioned Rs. 3 crore grant under the scheme for textile industry workers’ accommodation to construct a hostel for workers. The project is coming up at a cost of Rs. 6.55 crore and can accommodate an additional 600 workers.

The chairman and managing director of the park, M. Senthil Kumarexplained the status and facilities at the park. On completion of project expansion, the park will create 3,000 new jobs by next year.

The officials of the textile ministry also had a meeting with the owners of job-working powerloom units in the district and visited some of the units. The job-working powerloom units have sought subsidy from the central government to switch over to roof top solar energy from grid power.

PHWP consists of 90 sheds of various sizes with a total built-up area of 700,000 sq.ft. It is fully equipped to support weaving, garmenting, confection, knitting, embroidery, yarn stockings units etc. The main objective of PHWP is to facilitate the entrepreneurs to compete internationally by producing world-class products and to upgrade them to meet international environmental and social standards.
