NJB offers 49-day training towards diversification to Jute

The Dollar City, Tirupur has now turned its attention on manufacturing of jute products as it has already cemented its position in readymade garment export front. The initiative taken by the knitwear capital towards diversification from cotton to jute product using a 49-day training.

The National Jute Board (NJB) has offered the 49- day training in association with National Institute of Fashion Technology-Tirupur Exporters Association (NIFT-TEA) College of Knitwear Fashion.  Tirupur has groomed 20 persons to make at least 25 varieties of jute products.

“The city can easily contribute to the manufacturing of jute products which could help to achieve the projected annual target of Rs 1 lakh crore in exports in Tirupur,” NJB spokesperson said.

Being one of the 20 collaborative agencies of NJB, NIFT-TEA helps to take Jute Integrated Development Scheme (JIDS) to the masses with an aim to create awareness about jute products and increase the number of skilled workforce for production of jute diversified products.

“Among various schemes, JIDS would provide basic, advanced and design training and can be an alternative for the plastic bags. With an objective to create business diversification in the knitwear hub, many areas in and around Tiruper could be developed as Jute product cluster,” project coordinator, skill development initiative, N Viswanathan said at NIFT-TEA College.

Being a huge export market, Tirupur is likely to become popular in jute product manufacturing too.
