The ‘42nd Garment Buyers and Sellers Meet’ began at Hotel Peerless Inn in central part of Kolkata, today to help garment manufacturers interact directly with the all India buyers who will make their choice purchases particularly before the coming puja festival.

Major Garment Fair Begins in Kolkata Today

Several national and local brands set up stalls at the venue to display their products widely to woo the buyers, who have come from different parts of the country.

Organised by the West Bengal Garment Manufactures & Dealers Association, the three-day meet, an yearly event, is expected to draw a large number of buyers, agents and retailers and record a ‘good’ business transactions during all three days, according to organiser sources.

In his welcome address Association president Hari Kisan Rathi said with the increase in per capita income in the country, buyers’ requirements and lifestyle have been changing considerably. As a result, demand for ready-made garments with their fast changing design and quality is also increasing significantly.

He appreciated the measures taken by the government for promotion of readymade garment industry and said it is now imperative that entrepreneurs should do their best by taking advantage of the special package announced recently by the centre for improvement of the sector. The package, if implemented, will create more job opportunities and boost export, Rathi hoped. Number of important personalities in field were also present.
