The Khadi and Village Industries sector, a symbol of self-reliance, has witnessed unprecedented growth over the past 11 years under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of the Ministry of MSME.
In FY 2024–25, KVIC set new records in production, sales, and employment generation:
-
447% increase in sales,
-

-
49% growth in employment generation compared to 2013–14.
Khadi fabric production grew from Rs. 811 crore in 2013–14 to Rs. 3783 crore in 2024–25 — a 366% increase. Sales of Khadi clothing also surged by 561%, reaching Rs. 7145 crore.
Through the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), over 1 million units have been established, providing employment to more than 9 million people.
Women empowerment has been a key focus, with 57% of KVIC-trained artisans being women, and 80% of Khadi artisans across India being women. Over the last 11 years, artisan wages have increased by 275%, doubling in the last three years alone.
KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar credited this historic success to the inspiration of Mahatma Gandhi, the vision of PM Modi, the guidance of MSME Ministry, and the tireless efforts of millions of rural artisans. KVIC is playing a pivotal role in realizing the dream of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047 and making India a leading global economy.
