AMHSSC Apparel, Made-Ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) under the chairmanship of A. Sakthivel has become fully operational.

The government had constituted Prime Minister’s ambitious skill development programme under the leadership of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and The NSDC mandates skill formation to develop the workforce with enhanced skill through structured programme and assessment.

Sakthivel said due to presence of widespread training centers, determining the quality of training rendered at those centers is crucial to the success of skill development programme and, thus, skill assessment is essential part of skill development.

He said that AMHSSC has been launched jointly by the ministry of textiles, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) with primary mandate of enhancing and to build a capacity in skill development. One of the salient features of the AMHSSC is designing of training programmes, based on industry demands of different segments and to ensure that all successful trainees are certified through accredited agency.

AMHSSC has been authorized by NSDC for evolving assessing proficiencies of skills of trainees for the Apparel, Made-ups and Home furnishing sectors for their respective subject areas.

With a vision to align the specific job roles in Apparel Industry, it is envisaged to have standardized job roles equating with international standards. In view of that, ‘we have identified 25 job roles,’ Sakthivel said.

In addition to the training of fresh candidates, the AMHSSC has also been mandated to assess and certify the existing workers in the Apparel, Made-ups and Home Furnishing sector under the Recognition of Prior Learning scheme (RPL) of the centre and the manufacturers can take benefit of getting their workers assessed and certified. With certified workforce, manufacturers can differentiate better before the buyers, as buyers give more weightage to manufacturing units which have certified workforce.
