Bikaner is known as Asia’s largest wool market. Carpet grade raw wool from all wool producing states is sold in Bikaner mandi. There are large number of carpet yarn spinning units specially in handloom and khadi sector and most of the carpet grade yarn is produced in Bikaner. There is tremendous potential for development of wool based industry in Bikaner specially for manufacturing of woolen carpet looking at availability of woollen yarn.
Transactions regarding arrival and sale of wool in Bikaner mandi during last three years as per data collected by Central Wool Development Board are as under:

The Ministry of Textiles vide Gazette Resolution No.8/4/85-WT dated 7.7.1987 has set up Central Wool Development Board with its headquarters at Jodhpur.
Looking at largest wool mandi and carpet yarn manufacturing units in Bikaner, Ministry of Textiles has established a wool testing laboratory at Bikaner to support local wool industry.
This laboratory is providing necessary testing facilities right from fibre to fabric with technical guidance to the woolen industry, wool users and traders at cheaper cost. A Senior Marketing Officer have also been posted at Bikaner to help the Industry in marketing related matters.
The information was given by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Textiles Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
