Over 4,000 people came to the job fair in Agartala hosted by the Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) with the support of the State Government of Tamil Nadu to resolve the labour shortage in the industry as the major manufacturing hubs in the state have 30 to 90 percent migrant workers which were planning to move to other states.

A two-day job fair was organised that witnessed the recruitment of 1,635 candidates, including 20 physically challenged candidates. After a huge success, SIMA is planning to organise such fairs in other states also.

SIMA Chairman, P Nataraj was full of praise for the State Government and thanked them for the keenness in the job fair and hiring process to boost the industry.

It is pertinent to highlight here that the Indian state of Tamil Nadu houses 45 per cent of the country’s spinning capacity, 70 per cent of knitted garment manufacturing and 22 per cent of the weaving capacity employing over 60 lakh people.

To make the system more successful, SIMA is planning a Code of Conduct for employment of migrant workers.
