More than 60 textile dyeing and printing mills in Surat are on the verge of closure due to inadequate availability of water in Sachin Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) area.

Vinod Agarwal, president, Sachin Textile Process Industries, said, “For the last 10 days, the units are getting water supply for one hour in a day. The lake from where the water is supplied to the units is not getting enough water. We have asked the notified area authority to restore the supply or else the industry will have to shut down.

“Every unit requires around 60 million liter per day of water, against which 50 per cent of the respected demand is managed through private water tanks, this leads the companies towards huge additional cost, unbearable for the unit owners,” he added.
