Tirupur Knitwear Cluster To Outsource Expertise From Odisha

The Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA), along with the Odisha Skill Development Authority, various government departments and Bhubaneshwar based Gram Tarang Employability Training Services, will work on an initiative to impart training to Odisha workers. This training will be tailor-made to cater to the specific needs of Tirupur knitwear cluster.

In recent years, a lot of workers have migrated from Odisha to Tirupur knitwear cluster in search of employment. Some of these had taken training in some aspects of apparel production under different schemes of Odisha government. However, these skills were not found to be exactly suitable for knitwear manufacturing in Tirupur, according to TEA.

The delegation also briefed officials of Gram Tarang Employability Training Services about skill requirements of knitwear cluster in Tirupur. Providing skills appropriate to knitwear manufacturing will result in win-win situation as it will help Tirupur overcome labour shortage while providing employment to workers from Odisha.

Tirupur is one of the important garment clusters in India, accounting for over 50 per cent of cotton knitwear exports from India. The cluster provides employment to more than 3,00,000 people directly and indirectly.
