Uzbekistan textile export sector experienced a notable contraction in the first eleven months of 2025, as traditional upstream product shipments declined while finished apparel continued to gain market share.
According to the National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, textile and garment exports totaled approximately US $2.27 billion in January–November 2025, marking a 14.6 per cent decrease year-on-year compared to the same period in 2024. This segment represented about 7.3 per cent of the country’s total export volume.
The decline was primarily driven by weaker demand and falling shipments of upstream textile products — including yarn and fabrics — as global markets remained subdued and competitive pressures intensified from larger regional suppliers. Export values for intermediate textiles slumped as manufacturers and international buyers adjusted to changing order patterns.
In contrast, exports of apparel and finished textile products posted robust growth, underscoring Uzbekistan’s ongoing strategic shift toward higher value-added manufacturing. Finished goods accounted for over half (51.6 per cent) of total textile and garment exports in the period, while yarn comprised roughly 28.4 per cent, and knitted fabrics accounted for 11 per cent of the total export mix.
Industry analysts note that this trend reflects policymakers’ efforts and private sector investments aimed at strengthening domestic garment production, improving quality standards, and boosting integration into global apparel supply chains. Finished apparel typically commands higher margins and greater resilience against market fluctuations than raw or semi-processed materials.
Despite the overall downturn in textile exports, Uzbekistan’s broader foreign trade picture remains positive. For the full January–November period, the country’s total export turnover reached approximately US $30.9 billion, an increase of 26.2 per cent year-on-year, while total foreign trade turnover hit about US $72.8 billion.
Government and industry stakeholders expressed cautious optimism, pointing to the expanding role of apparel in Uzbekistan textile export portfolio and its potential to drive more sustainable export growth in the medium term.
