Textiles Minister Analyses Cotton Stock Situation

Textike MinisterTo take stock of the current cotton situation and Minimum Support Price (MSP) operations, the textile minister, Mr. Santosh Kumar Gangwar today conducted a high level meeting which was attended by among others textile secretary, Mr. S.K. Panda and CMD of Cotton Corporation of India Mr. B.K Mishra.

During the meeting, the minister directed Cotton Corporation of India to ensure online payments to farmers’ bank account as envisaged under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, opening of additional centres immediately wherever required and closely monitoring of MSP operations on a daily basis.

Mr. Gangwar also stressed the need to boost exports of cotton and explore new regions for exporting it and devise other measures for the purpose of promoting export.

For smooth conduct of MSP operations this season, Mr. Panda, has written letters to chief secretaries of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, intimating them about the arrangements made by CCI for purchase of cotton.
