SIGASouth India Garment Association (SIGA) has urged the union finance minister, Mr. Arun Jaitley not to propose any new taxes for the garment sector in the forthcoming union budget since the industry is passing through rough weather for the last few years.

In a letter to Mr. Jaitley, copy of which was sent to other concerned ministers, the association suggested for consideration of schemes for the revival of the industry. The association believed that promoting garment industry will bring ‘Achhe Din’ surely for common man by generating numerous jobs for their livelihood.

The association feels that there are various reasons for the garment industry heading towards downtrends and this is the time the industry required government ‘intervention’ and support for its revival and to retain employment. It said garment industry is a strong contributor to MSME sector creating huge jobs to common man specially women and under privileged of the country.

“Our Prime Minister has given a strong and positive vision ‘Make in India’, and garment industry is a strongest one in MSME sector which may contribute to the vision strongly creating jobs for poor, under privileged and the women,” SIGA added.
