With an aim to extend its retail business, the Rs 19,000 crore RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group on Tuesday marked its foray into the apparel sector which will be initially sold under the 2Bme brand in the group’s hyper market chain Spencer’s Retail and through an independent stores. It is eying for Rs 300 crore turnovers in 3-4 years from this business.

Primarily it is launched in Kolkata and then the National Capital Region and Hyderabad. “Hitherto food and staples were the main pillars of the retail business, but from now on there will also be accent on apparel for children, women and men,” said Shashwat Goenka, the group’s sector head for retail business. “Initially, the products will be made available in the Spencer’s Retail stores for 2-3 seasons and based on the response, we will take a call to introduce it to other apparel retail outlets”, Goenka added.

Goenka said the launch of the new brand has been preceded by extensive research on consumer requirement and will bring international fashion at affordable price. This has been done after more than a year’s preparation and an in-house team of more than 60 talented fashion designers and production engineers.

Spencer’s Retail is attracting four million footfalls every month of which one million is from Kolkata.
