Prime Minister To Dedicate Garment Units In NE

Textiles minister, Santosh Kumar Gangwar has said that eight garment units in NE (the North-Eastern) states will be dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

“Works for the units, each of which is being set up at a cost of Rs 18.18 crore, is going in full swing. These will become operational in another one month and will be dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister,” Gangwar said addressing an event – the ‘Make in India-Textile Industry- Strategy for Growth’, organised by Indian Texpreneurs Federation ((ITF) in Coimbatore.

Responding to the ITF’s grievances, Gangwar said he would depute officials or he himself would visit the city once in three months to learn and solve the problems faced by the textiles industry, which plays a major role in the Indian economy.

He said his ministry has already taken up the issue of rationalisation of duty on Man Made Fibre, abolition of Hank yarn Obligation and signing of Free Trade Agreements with European Union and emerging markets with the commerce and finance ministries.

The ITF also raised the issue of Zero Liquid Discharge for textiles factories announced by the ministry of environment and forests. Gangwar said he would consult the matter with the concerned ministry.
