Online StorePopular e-commerce retailer marketplace, Flipkart has launched an exclusive online store for Banarasi sarees, in association with DC handlooms, ministry of textiles to offer Indian weavers more exposure.

In September, Flipkart tied up with the local Varanasi weavers as a part of the ‘Flipkart Karigaar Ke Dwaar’ initiative. Furthering the aim to enable weavers, the exclusive online Banarasi handloom saree store will house a wide range of weaves from the weavers in Varanasi and other parts of the country.

According to reports, the sarees will be priced between Rs.3,999 to Rs.15,999. The store will focus on creating a national platform for the weavers to showcase their unique craftsmanship. Every saree would have the handloom trademark tag attached. Select weaves like Kanchipuram, Chanderi, Pithani, and Bandhej will be added to the store.

Banarasi sarees are made in Varanasi and among the finest sarees in the country. Those are also known for their gold and silver brocade or zari, fine silk, and opulent embroidery.

Launched in October 2007, Flipkart has become the preferred online marketplace for leading Indian and international brands. Flipkart, has 26 million registered users clocking over eight million daily visits. Its technology has enabled it to deliver five million shipments per month, according to company sources.
