Bihar Mahila Udyog Sangh is set to launch its e-commerce online portal, gramshree.com, to market the state’s handicrafts more effectively in the country and abroad. “Our state’s handicrafts will be up for grabs on this website,” Pushpa Chopra, Sangh president said.

“Thousands of women engaged in traditional arts and crafts will benefit from the portal. They will be helped by experts to make their products more presentable and marketable,” Chopra said.

The products to be made available online for sale will include the Madhubani artworks and Madhubani paintings mostly depicting the nature and Hindu religious motifs.

Also available online will be artworks of Sujini and Sikki besides Bhagalpuri silk saris. “The Bhagalpuri silk is huge hit on the social media these days. On the occasion of National Handloom Day on August 7, Union textile minister Smriti Irani posted a picture on twitter with the caption, ‘I support Indian weavers, here’s my #IWearHandloom look – Handwoven Silk from Bihar’,” Chopra added.

Adding they were expecting the Bhagalpuri silk to good business post this online buzz. She said other products to be made available online would be bedspreads, wall hangings, cushion covers, dupattas and kurtas. Bags, jewellery and decorative items of Sikki and Tikuli art will also be there along with temple-shaped boxes made of bamboo, jute-straw and paper inside which devotees can keep puja-related items.’Lah ki churi’, made by artisans of Muzaffarpur, will also be available on the website.
