About 15 Indian companies are participating in the 60th edition of the Cairo Fashion & Tex international fashion and textile exhibition in Egypt yesterday. The companies are presenting a wide range of high fashion fabrics, yarns, home textiles, scarves, shawls, stoles, manmade fibres and their blends and furnishing at the four-day fair.

Sponsored by the centre in association with the Indian Embassy in Cairo, the event is organised by The Cotton Textile Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL). India has actively participated in the Cairo Fashion & Tex exhibitions every year, Sanjay Bhattacharyya, India’s Ambassador to Egypt, said.

He said India is one of the largest producers of cotton and its cotton and textiles are popular internationally. A unique thing about India is that it can supply high-end as well as low-end textile items in both small and large quantities.

Joint director of TEXPROCIL, Shailesh Martis said that the council is participating in the fair to explore and test the Egyptian market so that it can bring relevant products to the country.

India exported textile and garments worth 297 million US dollar to Egypt in 2016. Cotton yarn was the dominant product as it valued at 143 million US dollar. Manmade yarn fabrics and cotton fabrics were exported to the tune of 105 million US dollar and 21 million US dollar, respectively.
