The government will help Haryana with the development of silk weaving units. Haryana has received proposals of investments up to Rs.7 lakh crore from various investors, the centre will lend support to execute agreements that the state has signed for developing its textile sectors, textiles minister, Smriti Irani said.

Both the central and state governments will make efforts to promote the textile industry in Panipat, Ambala, Sirsa and Panchkula districts, Irani said while laying the foundation stone of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Panchkula with Manohar Lal Khattar, chief minister of Haryana.

The NIFT centre will take about two years to be completed and its students will be guided by international experts, considering that it has entered into agreements with 32 global institutes. The new centre will be spread over an area of 10 acres and will cost about Rs.100 crore.

The institute will offer 6 regular degree courses and admit 230 students every year. 20 per cent of the seats will be reserved for the domiciles of Haryana.
