The 2nd Global Textile Sustainability Summit comes at a time when the global textile and apparel industry is undergoing a significant transformation driven by sustainability mandates, resilient supply chains, trade diversification, and green innovation. As the world’s sixth-largest exporter of textiles and apparel, India is increasingly positioning itself as a key force in this transition by strengthening global competitiveness while promoting responsible and sustainable manufacturing practices.
Industry momentum has been further reinforced by ongoing trade negotiations such as the proposed India–European Union Free Trade Agreement and stronger trade engagement with the United States. At the same time, policy initiatives announced in the recent Union Budget of India 2026, including the development of PM MITRA Textile Parks, are expected to enhance infrastructure and attract large-scale investments in the textile sector.
India is also expanding its global trade footprint through multiple free trade agreements. With 16 FTAs currently in place, including the India-Oman Free Trade Agreement, and ongoing or concluded negotiations with countries such as New Zealand and the European Union, the country is improving market access, reducing trade barriers, and strengthening its position as a sustainable sourcing destination for global supply chains.
In line with these developments, ASSOCHAM will organise the 2nd Global Textile Sustainability Summit under the central theme “Make India the Sustainable Textile Hub of the World” on March 25, 2026, in New Delhi.
The summit aims to serve as a strategic platform for policymakers, industry leaders, exporters, and sustainability experts to align key priorities shaping the future of the textile sector. Discussions will focus on trade advantages arising from potential EU FTA and US market access, policy support through PM MITRA Parks and infrastructure investments, sustainability mandates including ESG compliance, traceability and circularity, and the diversification of global value chains.
Industry stakeholders are expected to participate in the summit to explore opportunities for collaboration and innovation, reinforcing India’s ambition to become a trusted and sustainable textile manufacturing hub for global markets.
