India’s garment exports surged by 8.5% to $7.5 billion during April-September of this fiscal year, overcoming global uncertainties, as per data from the commerce ministry.

In September alone, ready-made garment exports increased by 17.3% to $1.11 billion, signaling robust growth in the sector.

Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), highlighted that India’s export growth has been resilient despite global headwinds and inflationary pressures, while other major apparel-exporting nations have seen a slowdown in recent months.

“India benefits from a strong domestic ecosystem, from fiber production to finished garments, a young workforce, and low import dependence, which makes its growth potential virtually limitless,” Sekhri added.

To further expand its international presence, Indian exporters are set to participate in major global trade fairs, with plans to host Bharat Tex in 2025. AEPC will also organize international roadshows in Spain and New York this month, showcasing India’s strengths in trade, technology, and tradition.

Mithileshwar Thakur, AEPC’s Secretary General, emphasized that India has started unlocking untapped potential, achieving impressive double-digit growth in ready-made garment exports, despite geopolitical tensions and supply chain challenges.

“The global apparel industry increasingly views India as a preferred sourcing destination,” Thakur noted.
