Arvind Limited, one of India’s leading textile-to-retail conglomerates, in collaboration with global fashion leader H &M Group and Indian innovation start-up Deven Supercriticals Pvt. Ltd., today inaugurated India’s first supercritical CO₂ dyeing machine at Arvind’s advanced facility in Ahmedabad. This marks a significant milestone in sustainable textile manufacturing, introducing a game-changing technology to the Indian industry.
The CO₂ dyeing machine, globally patented under the SUPRAUNO brand, drastically cuts down the use of water by replacing it with supercritical carbon dioxide in the dyeing process. At commercial scale, the machine delivers up to 76% water savings, nearly 67% energy savings, and around 90% reduction in chemical usage compared to conventional methods. By reducing effluent discharge, this innovation demonstrates how the CO₂ dyeing machine makes textile processing cleaner, greener, and far more efficient.

The inauguration of the CO₂ dyeing machine represents the successful collaboration of three partners: Deven Supercriticals contributing advanced Indian technology, Arvind driving industrial-scale deployment, and H&M Group enabling the adoption of sustainable innovations aligned with its global climate goals. This unique partnership ensures that innovation is scaled seamlessly from laboratory testing to full commercial application.
Highlighting the importance of the CO₂ dyeing machine, Punit Lalbhai, Vice Chairman of Arvind Ltd., said, “This inauguration is a defining moment for India’s textile sector. By hosting the world’s first commercial SUPRAUNO CO₂ dyeing machine, Arvind is proud to set global benchmarks in sustainable manufacturing. This project proves that innovation, industrial scale, and sustainability can thrive together.”
Adding his perspective, Omang Narang, H&M Group’s Production Manager for India, said, “Wet processing is one of the most resource-intensive stages in textiles. The CO₂ dyeing machine makes water- and energy-efficient dyeing a reality, supporting electrification and a fossil-free future. We are proud to play a role in accelerating industry-wide adoption of such technologies.”
Swapneshu Baser, Founder of Deven Supercriticals, emphasized the achievement by stating, “The inauguration of the CO₂ dyeing machine at commercial scale is not just a technology milestone but also a commitment to safeguarding water, energy, and public health. With the support of H&M Group and Arvind, this patented SUPRAUNO® solution demonstrates India’s ability to lead sustainable textile innovations.”
The launch of the CO₂ dyeing machine has also received encouragement from the Ministry of Textiles, which recognizes it as a strong step towards a circular, sustainable, and globally competitive textile industry. This initiative aligns closely with India’s vision of promoting indigenous innovation while driving global leadership in sustainable manufacturing.
