India has launched the investigation into imports of jute products from Bangladesh and Nepal on the request of Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA), the directorate general of Anti-Dumping and Allide Duties (DGAD) has said.

The DGAD said it has started the probe after finding what it described as sufficient prima facie evidence of dumping of jute products by Bangladesh and Nepal following a complaint by the IJMA.

The DGAD said it found a link between the dumping and injury to the domestic jute industry to justify initiation of an anti-dumping investigation. The probe will determine the existence, degree and effect of the alleged dumping and to recommend the amount of anti-dumping duty, which if levied, would be adequate to remove the ‘injury’ to the domestic industry, it said.
