Dr. A. Sakthivel said the knitwear exports from Tirupur has recorded Rs.18, 000 Crores in 2013 – 14 and is now striving to double the exports within next three years and added that the implementation of information technology is increasingly becoming essential for faster business decision making and efficient  communication apart from lead a quality life.

Dr. A. Sakthivel further said Tirupur was having population of just two lakh in 1970 has risen to nine lakh today and added the share of migrant population is more in the working population with industry and it is also getting increased day by day.

Dr. A. Sakthivel recalled that while addressing in the Silver Jubilee Inaugural function of Tirupur Exporters’ Association on 31st August 2014, Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Hon’ble Union Minister of Urban Development Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation & Parliamentary Affairs specially mentioned that Tirupur is a place of happening and this is no ordinary achievement and wished more number of towns in India should emulate Tirupur exports.

Dr. A. Sakthivel noted that this happening city should be included in the smart city programme and hope the Hon’ble Minister would consider the requisition and make it one among the 100 cities.
