Khadi Symbolises Economic Resilience

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has highlighted the growing importance of khadi as a symbol of economic resilience and sustainable livelihoods in India. According to KVIC leadership, the traditional fabric continues to play a vital role in strengthening rural employment, promoting self-reliance, and supporting the country’s grassroots economy.

Speaking on the significance of khadi, the KVIC chief emphasised that the fabric has evolved beyond its historical and cultural identity to become a powerful driver of rural economic development. Khadi production supports thousands of artisans, spinners, and weavers across the country, enabling them to earn sustainable incomes while preserving India’s rich textile heritage.

He noted that khadi’s relevance has expanded in recent years as consumers increasingly shift toward sustainable, eco-friendly, and locally produced textiles. The growth in demand for khadi products has not only boosted artisan livelihoods but has also strengthened the broader village industries ecosystem supported by KVIC.

The KVIC chief further underlined that initiatives aimed at expanding khadi production, improving design innovation, and promoting market access are helping the sector reach new domestic and global audiences. These efforts align with the vision of Narendra Modi to promote self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative while generating large-scale rural employment opportunities.

Industry observers believe that with rising global interest in sustainable fashion and natural fabrics, khadi has the potential to become a strong ambassador of India’s traditional textile craftsmanship in international markets.

KVIC continues to focus on strengthening the khadi ecosystem through skill development, technology adoption, and marketing support, ensuring that the fabric remains a symbol of economic resilience, sustainability, and rural empowerment in modern India.
