New Textile Policy in 3 months

A new textile policy is likely to be finalized in the next three months. The draft for which will be ready once consultations are done with the stakeholders. The new policy is expected to create 35 million additional jobs in the country and achieve 300 billion US Dollar in textile exports by 2024-25.

Response and output from foreign players who will participate in the upcoming Textile India 2017 conference to be held in Gujarat will be taken into account while formulating the policy, Anant Kumar Singh, textiles secretary said while addressing the media at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) event. “There is no harm in having wider consultation. After having inputs, we will process and finalise the policy in next three months period”, the Singh added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating Textile India Conclave and Exhibition in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on June 30. The three day event will showcase a wide range of Indian textiles and handicrafts at more than 1,000 stalls. The event will play host to over 2,500 international buyers, retailers, agents and designers and over 15,000 visitors.

The valedictory session will be presided by Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley.
