Textile minister Smriti Zubin Irani recently visited Netaji Apparel Park (NAP) at New Tirupur in Tamil Nadu and met with the select exporters and Office Bearers of Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA).

After hearing about the growth of Tirupur, the minister was appreciative and said “ yesterday’s labour in Tirupur is Today’s owner’ is the mantra and catch line, and it should be popularized everywhere in the country which would attract many people from various places to come, work and set up their own units.”

She lauded the efforts made by Tirupur entrepreneurs in production of power through wind mill and solar energy and Zero Liquid Discharge initiative and said she would request the environmental ministry to set-up an award to honour the sustainable clusters which are keen in the protection of environment.

TEA president Raja M Shanmugham said the minister hailed the development of Tirupur and expect that other clusters like Kanpur should also evolve the same and for this, she advised for the visit of a delegation from Tirupur exporters to Kanpur to help them follow the similar practices prevailing in Tirupur.

The visiting minister has also promised to take efforts for inking trade agreements with EU, Britain, Australia and Canada, TEA president added.
