Textile Exporters To Explore Opportunities In Japan

Indian textile exporters should explore the vast business opportunities in Japan, joint director of textiles committee K.S. Muralidhara has said. He was in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu to attend an industry capacity building programme, organized by Textiles Committee and QTEC (Japan Textiles Products Quality and Technology Centre).

Muralidhara said, the potential for exports to Japan is huge and India exports just two per cent of its total textile and garment exports to Japan. Of the total textile and clothing imports by Japan, only one per cent is from India. The major supplier to that country is China, and the importer is now looking at suppliers from other countries too, he added.

Japanese buyers, however, demanded that products should be tested at QTEC laboratories as their quality requirements are high and some of the standards are different from those accepted in the western markets. “We will look at upgrading the laboratories jointly with QTEC,” Muralidhara said.
