Skill Development Training programme for Assam Weavers

The National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC) Skill Development Training Programme (SDTP) is organised for the handloom weavers in Assam’s Hojai district. It is a five-day initiative which kicked off on December 24, 2017.

It is supported by Chanu Creations in association with Textile Sector Skill Council (TSC). The agenda behind conducting this training programme cum workshop is to help women get a job in the weaving sector. Such kind of support will also help women identify their full potential and make themselves capable of making their own identity in the society.

NSFDC sponsors the programme for the unemployed youth in areas such as garment technology, computer technology, electronic test engineering, mobile phone repairs, BPO call centres and automobile repairs, etc.

Weaving and embroidery are two of the main cottage industries in Assam. Weaving is the traditional industry and the state shows the creativity of the Assamese weavers by the beautiful handloom fabrics produced by them.

Skilling of weavers becomes crucial to nourishing their products in the market. Product development and diversification will also play a crucial role in promoting the traditional craft of Assam.
